Hello friends,
Can you believe it’s less than 7 weeks now until the General Election? November 4th will be here before we know it. A huge thank you once again goes out to all who have volunteered their time and energy on my campaign. We’ve accomplished so much during this campaign, but we’re not done yet. I hope you all consider volunteering during this crucial stretch run leading up to Election Day.
On another note, you’ve probably heard by now that Congress finally voted on an energy bill Tuesday night. Unfortunately, it was Nancy Pelosi’s “no energy” bill that was passed by the House. Please keep reading below for more on Speaker Pelosi’s idea of an energy bill.
Thank you & God Bless,
Bill
Speaker Pelosi’s Energy Bill
On Tuesday night, House Democrats passed Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s “no energy” bill. It now moves to the Senate where, thankfully, it is unlikely to survive. Nancy Pelosi created a sham of an energy bill that does not offer what the American people are demanding and that is a comprehensive energy plan.
Speaker Pelosi’s “bait and switch” energy plan allows offshore drilling beyond 50 miles off the coast. What they aren’t telling you is that it would impose a permanent ban on drilling for nearly 90% of offshore American oil. Her bill actually bans drilling where oil is known to exist and the infrastructure to extract it is already in place. In addition, Pelosi’s plan fails to include domestic energy production from ANWR; oil shale; nuclear energy; clean coal and coal-to-liquid technology; additional refineries; AND it raises taxes on gasoline, heating oil and natural gas.
Americans want a comprehensive energy plan that lowers gas prices now and creates a sustainable future to eliminate our dependence on foreign oil. They want an “all of the above” plan like the bipartisan “Abercrombie / Peterson” bill (H.R. 6709), named after the leading Democrat and Republican Congressmen who introduced it. H.R. 6709 will lower gas prices by increasing production of American energy; sharing revenue for the energy producing states; encouraging more energy efficiency and conservation through incentives and tax breaks; and promoting the use of more alternative fuels such as solar, wind, and hydrogen.
Right here in our own district, there are alternative energy companies that would thrive under a comprehensive energy plan. There are companies making bio-diesel from algae, more energy efficient lighting, and a super fuel efficient automobile engine, just to name a few. Not only would these "green" companies have positive environmental impacts, but under the proper energy plan they would have huge positive impacts on our local economy as well.
Speaker Pelosi’s bill is not an energy bill. It’s just more of the same government regulation that created this mess in the first place. It does nothing to bring energy prices down. It does nothing to make us less dependent on foreign energy. Pelosi and the liberals in Congress just don’t get it.
